Hear From the People We've Welcomed Home

Portrait of Maria

Maria

San Rafael, CA

"I kept waiting for someone to say there was a catch. There wasn't. They just showed up and made it a home. I don't think I'll ever be able to thank them enough."

Portrait of James

James

Novato, CA

"My kids had never had their own beds before. Watching them run into their room that first day — that's something I'll carry with me for the rest of my life."

Portrait of Denise

Denise

Marin City, CA

"I walked in and the table was set. The table was actually set. That was the moment I cried — because it meant someone believed this was really my home."

A family in their newly furnished home on Welcoming Day

This Is a Welcoming Day

On a Welcoming Day, a family walks into their new home — and it's already fully furnished. Beds made. Kitchen stocked. Couch in the living room. Art on the walls. It happens in a single day, coordinated entirely by volunteers.

For many residents, it's the first time in years they've had a place that truly feels like home.

"I walked in and couldn't believe it was the same place."

How We Work

We partner with local social service agencies to identify families and individuals moving out of homelessness and into their first home. Then we bring together community donors, volunteers, and partners to deliver a fully furnished space — all in a single day, at no cost to anyone.

Free to Residents

Families and individuals pay nothing. Neither do the agencies that refer them.

Community-Donated

Every piece of furniture comes from neighbors who want their good things to find a new home.

Diverts from Landfills

Good furniture that would end up in a dumpster instead becomes the foundation of a home.
